Raising Funds for Ukraine
Westray Junior High staff and pupils wanted to do something to support the people of Ukraine. We spoke with our older pupils (S1-S4), and they were all keen to participate in an activity to raise funds for Ukraine. S1-3 pupils participated in an all-day silence on Tuesday 08th March. The silence began at 09.00 and finished at 15.45 including interval and lunchtime. Our S4 pupils were not asked to take part in the silence. We are moving at a rate of knots towards SQA exams, and we need the S4 pupils to be engaging with teachers during lessons. However, the S4 pupils will be given the opportunity to write a letter collectively to our local MSP and MP asking them to support the people of Ukraine. We did not ask pupils to be sponsored, but rather we asked for anonymous monetary donations to be made. A couple of donation tubs were available at the front door for any member of the community who wished to make a donation. . Some pupils asked if they could make a personal donation. A donation tub was made available in the French classroom for any pupil who wished to make an anonymous donation. Any funds raised will be paid to Save The Children Ukraine Appeal. Our Young People chose this charity as it is Young People helping Young People. The donations for the Save The Children Ukraine Appeal from the Secondary Silence have been counted. We have raised £312.71. We would like to send a MASSIVE THANK YOU to our local communities of Westray and Papay for their extreme generosity once again. A huge well done also goes to our pupils for participating in the silence. https://www.savethechildren.org.uk/how-you-can-help/emergencies/ukraine-appeal
